Moulds are used today in a wide variety of engineering industries, for increasingly demanding applications. For example, the aerodynamic properties and overall efficiency of wind turbines depend entirely on ensuring that the foil shape is not compromised in any way. Given that these structures are large but very light-weight, this is a big engineering challenge that requires the best mould making expertise, techniques and formulations.
In general, manufacturers need to produce larger and larger moulds that do not distort. Finding epoxies that are stable at higher temperatures is of paramount importance.
